Hey I am Randy Peeters an Electrical Engineer with a passion for electronics, programming and homelabbing. In my free time, I love learning new skills and discovering different areas of knowledge. Professionally I have a B.ASc in Electrical Engineering obtained at Fontys Engineering University of Applied Sciences Eindhoven.
When I was at the age of 14, I started developing Minecraft server plugins with Java. Over the time the complexity of the projects grew as did my experience. I then wondered how computer “programs” (the graphical ones) were made and started doing Graphic User Interface (GUI) development in Java. My first GUI was a basic button which opened a warning dialog and later evolvded into a TCP socket-based chat application with a server and several clients.
Around the age of 16 I started wondering how computers can blink lights/LEDs and I dived into electronics by writing my first Arduino program. This was my first experience with electronics and led to an adventure in a whole new domain. During this adventure I learned about several circuits, electronic compontents, breadboard prototyping, PCB-design, signal integrity, electromagnetic compatibility etc.
During my education, the things I learned from my previous experiences came in handy pretty well and helped me a lot during the course. Ofcourse I learned some things in university, but the most came from self study as I kept on exploring more material and kept improving my skills which also gave me more experience on all levels.
In my adventure I have:
- Implemented several circuits on breadboards as well as on produced PCB’s
- Wrote embedded software for several microcontroller brands/types
- Performed System on Chip (SoC) FPGA development, perihperal development, AXI5 bus modeling, verification
- Learned a lot about self hosting, containerisation (Docker), networking, security, etc
